What is the difference between alloy C276 and Hastelloy C276

Alloy C276 and Hastelloy C276 are different names for the same nickel-based alloy and have no substantial difference.

Hastelloy C276 is the registered trade name (trademark) of Haynes International, while C276 is the general technical name for the alloy (often referred to by UNS number N10276 or ASTM/EN standard).

Their chemical composition (Ni ≥57%, Mo 15–17%, Cr 14.5–16.5%, Fe 4–7%, W 3–4.5%, C ≤0.01%), physical properties (density ≈8.89 g/cm³), corrosion resistance (excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, wet chlorine and chloride environments), and application areas (chemical industry, flue gas desulfurization, marine engineering, etc.) are completely identical. The international standard corresponds to UNS N10276, the Chinese designation is NS334 (or NS3304), and the German designation is 2.4819.

Therefore, “C276 alloy” is the same as “Hastelloy C276,” only the naming context differs (trade name vs. common name/standard designation). Procurement or technical documents should adhere to UNS N10276 or specific standards (such as ASTM B575) to avoid misinterpreting them as different materials due to name differences.
