Forging Temperature Ranges for Various Steels

The forging temperatures of common steels are mostly between 800℃ and 1250℃, depending on the type of steel. Carbon steel has a wider range, while alloy steel and high-speed steel require stricter temperature control to prevent cracking or overheating.

Common Forging Temperatures for Steels

Carbon Steel: Initial forging temperature is generally around 1200℃, and the final forging temperature is about 800℃. Commonly used ranges are 1200-800℃ or 1100-850℃.

Alloy Structural Steel: Poor thermal conductivity; initial forging temperature is slightly lower, around 1100-1180℃, and the final forging temperature is about 850-900℃.

High-Speed Steel: Heating temperature 1130-1180℃, not exceeding 1200℃; the final forging temperature should not be too low to prevent cracking.

Stainless steel: such as 316Ti, is generally heated to 1100-1200℃, and has good plasticity in this range.
