Investment casting offers relatively high dimensional accuracy.
Accuracy can reach CT5-7, with surface roughness ranging from Ra256.3μm. This is primarily reflected in its ability to manufacture high-precision and complex shapes:
Dimensional Accuracy
Castings can achieve dimensional accuracy of CT4-6 (equivalent to national standards of 5-7), with surface roughness as low as Ra 1.6μm. In some cases, zero-stock casting (i.e., reducing cutting allowance) is possible.
Shape Complexity
Parts with fine holes, curved surfaces, and complex structures, such as turbine blades and gears, can be cast, with shapes difficult to achieve using other processes. The minimum hole diameter can be less than 1.0mm, and the wall thickness can be as thin as 0.5mm.
Material Compatibility
This technology is suitable for materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and titanium alloys, and is particularly suitable for materials that are difficult to forge, weld, or cut. Of course, the process level of investment casting is second only to die casting, and both are considered to be at a high level of precision in casting.
