The main steps in making a sand mold for casting are as follows:
Sand Preparation: Calculate the raw material ratio according to process requirements, mix the casting sand with a binder (such as resin, water glass, etc.), ensuring the sand meets physical properties such as permeability, strength, and heat resistance.
Mold Making: Make a wooden or metal mold that matches the shape of the casting to form the cavity of the sand mold. Pay attention to the direction and position of the draft angle to ensure smooth removal of the mold during demolding.
Molding Operation: Fill the mold with the prepared sand and compact it. When filling, compact the sand in layers to prevent delamination or collapse. If the sand box is high, fill multiple times and evenly tap with a sand pounder to ensure the sand is dense.
Mold Assembly: Assemble and fix the upper and lower molds, ensuring the cavity position is accurate. After assembly, check the parting surface for tightness to prevent molten metal leakage during pouring.
Mold Assembly: Post-cast Processing: After pouring and cooling, the sand mold is destroyed to remove the casting. Residual sand particles, flash, and other defects are cleaned to obtain a qualified casting blank.
