Is 7075 aluminum cast

It’s not cast aluminum. It’s an aluminum alloy, but it can be used for casting and forging.

It’s not suitable for die-casting. Because it’s an ultra-hard aluminum alloy, its poor fluidity makes it unsuitable for die-casting.

7075 is a cast aluminum alloy, but it’s more commonly used in deformed aluminum alloys (e.g., forging, extrusion, and stamping).

Alloy Properties

7075 belongs to the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu family of ultra-hard aluminum, renowned for its high strength. It’s widely used in aviation, aerospace, and high-strength parts. Its implementation standard is GB/T3880.2-2012. Its calculated density is 2.85, and its tensile strength can reach over 560 MPa.

Applications

Deformation Processing: Commonly used in CNC-machined parts, aircraft frames, and high-strength parts.

Special Processing: Some products (such as aluminum tubes) may require cold-treatment forging processes, implemented in accordance with standards such as GB/T3191-2010.

Differences from Ordinary Aluminum Alloys

7075 contains a high zinc content (5.1%-6.1%), enhanced by elements such as magnesium and copper. Ordinary aluminum alloys vary widely in composition, such as 3003 containing manganese and 6061 containing magnesium and silicon.

Why Does 7075 Aluminum Alloy Have Relatively Poor Die-Casting Performance?

Although 7075 aluminum alloy can be cast, its die-casting performance is less than ideal. This is because this alloy is prone to casting defects such as porosity and shrinkage during the die-casting process. These defects can seriously affect the quality and stability of die-cast parts. Therefore, from the perspective of ensuring product quality, die-casting is not the preferred forming method for 7075 aluminum alloy.
7075 aluminum alloy can be cast, but given the limitations of its die-casting performance, we recommend prioritizing other forming methods in actual production, such as casting, forging, or extrusion. These methods can better ensure product quality and performance stability, meeting the needs of different application scenarios. Furthermore, the most suitable forming process can be flexibly selected based on specific production conditions and part requirements. Of course, different metal materials have corresponding application scenarios and processing techniques. Generally, professional metal casting and molding factories will provide appropriate recommendations.
