Is it possible to forge aluminum

Aluminum can be forged, and aluminum alloy forging technology is widely used in aerospace,

automobile manufacturing and other fields, which can significantly improve the mechanical properties and lightweight characteristics of materials.

Forgeability and process characteristics of aluminum

Aluminum and aluminum alloys have good forgeability and can be formed by cold forging (room temperature), warm forging (200-300℃) or hot forging (380-500℃). Forging can eliminate internal defects of materials (such as looseness), refine grain structure, and improve strength, toughness and fatigue life.

Main forging processes

Free forging: suitable for small batch production, the blank is upset and stretched by forging hammer or hydraulic press, and is often used for blank preparation.
Die forging: using molds to form complex shapes with high precision, suitable for batch production, such as automotive control arms and aircraft engine parts.
Special processes:
Ring rolling: production of ring parts (such as high-speed rail hubs).
Isothermal forging: 0.1mm level accuracy is achieved under superplastic state, used for precision parts such as aviation blades.

Application fields and advantages

Aerospace: key components such as engine air intakes and skins rely on their high specific strength.
Automotive industry: lightweight parts such as steering knuckles and wheels to reduce energy consumption.
Rail transportation: core components such as high-speed rail wheels, taking into account both strength and corrosion resistance.
