Valve Casting Materials

Valve materials are primarily categorized into three main categories: metal, non-metal, and composite.

These include cast iron, carbon steel, stainless steel, copper alloys, plastics, and ceramics. Different materials are suitable for different pressures, temperatures, and media environments. Of course, valve castings are primarily metal, which offers a wider range of applications.

Metal Valves

Cast Iron
Gray cast iron: Suitable for low-pressure (PN ≤ 1.6 MPa) and temperatures between -15°C and 200°C for media such as water and steam. Common grades include HT200 and HT250.
Ductile iron: Offers higher pressure resistance (PN ≤ 4.0 MPa) and a temperature range of -30°C to 350°C. Suitable for media such as water and oil. Grades include QT400-15.
Carbon Steel and Alloy Steel
Carbon steel (such as WCB): Withstands pressures up to 32 MPa and temperatures between -30°C and 425°C. It is widely used in oil and steam systems. Stainless steel (304, 316, etc.): Highly corrosion-resistant, suitable for temperatures ranging from -196°C to 600°C, suitable for corrosive media or low-temperature environments.

Specialty Metals

Titanium Alloy: Corrosion-resistant and lightweight, suitable for harsh environments such as seawater and chemical processing.

Monel Alloy: Resistant to hydrofluoric acid corrosion, used in the nuclear industry.
What materials are used for valve cores and sleeves?
Common materials for valve cores and sleeves include copper alloys, stainless steel (such as 304/316), carbon steel, and wear-resistant ceramics. Copper-nickel alloys offer excellent corrosion resistance, while stainless steel is suitable for high-pressure environments.
