What are the materials of wear-resistant castings

The materials of wear-resistant castings are mainly ductile iron, high chromium cast iron, nickel-hard cast iron, ordinary white cast iron and high manganese steel.

Its characteristics and application scenarios are as follows:

Ductile cast iron

Spheroidal graphite is obtained through spheroidization and inoculation treatment, which has high strength, good plasticity and toughness, and its comprehensive performance is close to that of steel. It is often used to manufacture parts with complex forces and high wear resistance requirements, such as crankshafts, gears, etc. Among them, ausferrous ductile iron (CADI) is a new type of wear-resistant material strengthened by isothermal quenching. The metallographic structure is austenite-bainite matrix plus spheroidal graphite, which is suitable for replacing high chromium cast iron in metallurgy, mining and other fields.

High chromium cast iron

With chromium as the main alloying element (usually >12%), it has high hardness but low toughness and excellent wear resistance. It is widely used in wear-resistant parts in mining, cement and other industries, but it is limited by the dependence on imported chromium resources and has a high cost.

Nickel-hard cast iron

It has a high nickel content (about 3-5%) and good wear resistance and corrosion resistance. However, due to the scarcity of nickel resources in my country and the high cost, it is mostly replaced by high-chromium cast iron.

Ordinary white cast iron and high-manganese steel

White cast iron: high hardness but brittle and easy to break;

High manganese steel: poor work hardening ability under low impact loads. Both are traditional wear-resistant materials with obvious limitations in modern applications.

Other wear-resistant alloy cast irons

Such as chromium-molybdenum-copper alloy cast iron, the performance is improved by adding elements such as Cu, Mo, Cr, etc., the composition example: C 2.9-3.5%, Si 1.5-2.5%, Mn 0.7-1.0%, and contains a small amount of Cu, Cr, Mo.
