AISI 1045 is a common carbon structural steel, also known as medium-carbon steel.
It features high strength, good toughness, and machinability, making it widely used in machinery manufacturing, the automotive industry, and other fields.
Chemical Composition and Properties
The chemical composition of AISI 1045 is primarily carbon (C: 0.43-0.50%) and manganese (Mn: 0.60-0.90%), with low phosphorus and sulfur contents (both ≤ 0.05%), and the remainder is iron. Its carbon content is medium, giving the material the following properties:
Mechanical Properties: Tensile strength ≥ 600 MPa, yield strength ≥ 355 MPa, elongation ≥ 16%, impact energy ≥ 39 J, and hardness ≤ 229 HB without heat treatment.
Machinability: Easy to cut and cold form, with good weldability. Heat treatment (such as quenching and tempering) can further increase its strength. Applications
Due to its excellent comprehensive properties, AISI 1045 is widely used in:
Mechanical Manufacturing: Gears, shafts, piston pins, and other parts.
Automotive: High-strength structural parts and transmission components.
Construction and Energy: Metal components, pipes, and valves.
Supply Forms and Standards
This material is available in a variety of forms, including sheet, round bar, forgings, and pipes, to meet the needs of diverse industries. Its technical standards conform to the ASTM AISI/SAE system and are partially equivalent to European Standard C45 or Japanese Standard S45C.
