GGG-40.3 is a type of ductile iron material.
The numbers in its grade indicate the material’s mechanical properties, such as a tensile strength of not less than 400 MPa and an elongation of not less than 3%.
This material is obtained by spheroidizing gray cast iron. The precipitated graphite is spherical, resulting in higher strength, better toughness, and better plasticity than ordinary gray cast iron.
In terms of chemical composition, GGG-40.3 is typically composed of basic elements such as iron, carbon, silicon, and manganese, and may contain alloying elements such as chromium, molybdenum, nickel, and copper to improve its wear resistance, heat resistance, or corrosion resistance.
The specific elemental content may vary slightly depending on production standards or application requirements.
GGG-40.3 has good strength, wear resistance, heat resistance, and vibration damping properties, and excellent casting performance, but usually requires artificial aging treatment to stabilize its dimensions. It is widely used in manufacturing parts requiring high strength and a certain degree of corrosion resistance, such as pump casings, containers, towers, flanges, stuffing boxes, machine tool beds, columns, gears, and parts requiring surface hardening. Due to its low thermal deformation, it is also commonly used in high-temperature applications.
In practical applications, the performance of GGG-40.3 is affected by its chemical composition (such as silicon and nickel content) and heat treatment process. For example, controlling the silicon content within the range of 2.00% to 2.20% helps optimize low-temperature impact performance.
