Aluminum alloy gravity casting refers to the process of injecting molten metal into a mold under the action of the earth’s gravity.
Aluminum alloy has a low melting point and good casting performance. Gravity castings and low-pressure casting products are widely used in many fields such as automobiles, motorcycles, motors, communications, hardware tools and more.
Casting processing
I. The process of gravity casting of aluminum alloy
1. Preparation of aluminum alloy casting mold: The mold can be divided into sand mold, metal mold, and foam mold according to the material used; according to the method of use, it can be divided into hand-lifting mold, flip mold, top box, leaking mold, steel mold, and lost mold. The mold is one of the main factors affecting the quality of aluminum castings.
2. Melting and pouring of cast aluminum alloy: Casting aluminum alloy refers to the aluminum alloy material used for pouring aluminum castings in casting production. Jingshuncheng Metal Aluminum Casting Plant uses aluminum ingots (some small aluminum casting plants use recycled scraps). Aluminum alloy smelting is not just a simple melting, but also includes a smelting process so that the metal poured into the mold meets the expected requirements in terms of temperature, chemical composition and purity.
3. Processing and inspection of aluminum castings: remove foreign matter from the core and surface, cut off the pouring riser, grind burrs and seams and other protrusions, as well as heat treatment, shaping, shot blasting and rough processing. Check whether the appearance and size of the aluminum castings are qualified.
2. Characteristics of aluminum alloy gravity casting
1. There are a small number of pores inside the casting, which can be heat treated by T6. The strength after heat treatment can be greatly improved, exceeding that of die-cast products.
2. The internal density of the product is very high. It can be formed by the dead weight of the liquid and is not easily captured by gas, so the density of the product is higher than that of die casting, and its strength and tensile elongation are higher after T6 heat treatment.
3. The surface of aluminum alloy gravity casting products is not rough. When the casting product is generated, a layer of powdered coating will be applied on the mold, and a sandy surface will be formed after the product is completely demolded.
4. Under the same mold cost, the service life is longer than die casting; if you only need to produce small batches of products, you can choose mold steel with low requirements. The total mold cost is much lower than die casting. The larger the product, the lower the cost.
5. Aluminum alloy gravity casting can produce products with complex inner cavities, and produce products that die casting cannot produce.
6. It is not suitable for producing thin-walled parts.
Of course, different casting processes need to correspond to the use scenarios and strength requirements of castings, and the casting cost needs to be considered. In general, foundries will collect complete casting information and then provide appropriate casting solutions based on customer requirements. Don’t worry about this. Professional foundries will do this. For example, Mulan Metal, as a professional Chinese foundry, has cooperative customers in more than 30 countries around the world and produces millions of castings every year. If you need large quantities or precision castings, you can choose Mulan Group to cooperate.
