What is Ni-Hard casting

Nihard nickel-chromium alloy white cast iron is a kind of white cast iron containing nickel and chromium alloy elements.

It is usually called Ni-Hard internationally. It has good wear resistance, impact resistance and corrosion resistance, and its microstructure is a chromium-iron alloy distributed on nickel-based martensite. Its high strength, high hardness, corrosion resistance and good wear resistance make it widely used in various industrial fields, such as excavators, loaders, construction, mining, ore product processing and other high-wear and high-impact environments.

Among them, the most widely used and most representative one is Nihard4, which has excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. It is usually manufactured using smelting, casting, heat treatment and other processes. Heat treatment can enhance the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of cast iron.

About the main technical parameters of Ni-Hard4 nickel hard cast iron:

1. Chemical composition: NiHard4 contains higher elements of chromium, nickel and molybdenum, as well as appropriate amounts of carbon, manganese and silicon. The addition of these elements gives the cast iron higher strength, hardness and corrosion resistance. Among them, the addition of nickel improves the material’s toughness, corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength, while chromium enhances the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the cast iron. Molybdenum helps improve the hardenability and strength of the material.

2. Hardness: The hardness value of NiHard4 will change depending on the processing status. For example, the hardness of as-cast or after stress-relieving treatment may reach HRC ≥ 50, HBW ≥ 500; the hardness of the hardened state or after stress-relieving treatment may reach HRC ≥ 56, HBW ≥ 600.

3. Heat treatment specifications: During the smelting process, the quality of raw materials and the chemical composition of iron night need to be strictly controlled to avoid defects such as pores and shrinkage. During the casting process, parameters such as pouring temperature and mold temperature need to be controlled to obtain dense castings. For example, Ni-Hard4 may need to undergo hardening treatment and stress relief treatment. The hardening treatment temperature range may be 750℃~825℃, and the furnace may be air-cooled or furnace-cooled after 4-10 hours of heat preservation. The stress-relieving treatment temperature range may be 250℃~300℃, and the furnace may be air-cooled or furnace-cooled after 4~16 hours of heat preservation.

Ni-Hard with the name “Hard” is no bluff. This alloy cast iron containing 4-7% nickel can be called the “wear-resistant king” in the material world:

Hardness Responsibility: Rockwell hardness can reach 55-65HRC

Alloy formula: chromium element forms a hard phase of chromium carbide

Corrosion resistance bonus: Nickel element improves acid and alkali resistance

Typical applications: mining crusher linings, cement mixer blades, etc.

For example, coal grinders in thermal power plants must resist both the wear of coal powder and sulfur corrosion. Ni-Hard is a more reasonable choice.
