What metals cannot be die-cast

Not all metals are suitable for die casting. First, titanium is chemically unstable, easily oxidizing in air and reacting with nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon when heated, making it unsuitable for casting.

Second, metals with unstable ferrites, such as radium and plutonium, are prone to chemical reactions at high temperatures, causing changes in the metal structure and affecting the performance of the casting. Furthermore, metals with high melting points, such as tungsten and molybdenum, are difficult to form into a fluid, which can affect pouring and molding, and are therefore not recommended. In summary, when selecting a casting material, it is important to consider both its chemical and physical properties to ensure casting quality.

Metals that cannot be die-cast primarily include high-melting-point metals and some low-plasticity metals:

High-melting-point metals

Copper: With a melting point of approximately 1083°C, high temperatures can easily damage die-casting machine components (such as goosenecks and shot punches), requiring cold-chamber die casting.

Titanium alloys: With extremely high melting points, they are unsuitable for conventional die-casting processes.

Low-Plasticity Metals

Cast iron: With a melting point exceeding 1200°C, high temperatures can easily damage molds and increase production costs, making it unsuitable for die casting.
Other low-melting-point metals, such as magnesium alloys (melting point approximately 650°C) and aluminum alloys (melting point approximately 660°C), can also be die-casted, but the choice of hot-chamber or cold-chamber die-casting method depends on the specific process.

Finally, among current die-casting processes, aluminum alloys can only be cast using cold-chamber die-casting machines, while zinc alloys require hot-chamber die-casting machines. The mainstream metals used for die-casting are aluminum alloys, zinc alloys, and magnesium alloys. We can meet the die-casting needs of various industries.
