Which is better for making food accessories: die-cast aluminum or aluminum alloy

For food accessories, ordinary aluminum alloy (such as 6063 or 6061 grades) is more suitable than die-cast aluminum alloy because it is easier to perform surface treatment (such as anodizing),

thereby improving food safety and corrosion resistance.

Basic differences between die-cast aluminum and aluminum alloy

Die-cast aluminum is an aluminum alloy formed by high-pressure casting process, commonly used ADC12 or ALsi9cu3 grades; while ordinary aluminum alloy (such as aluminum profiles) mostly uses 6061 or 6063 grades, manufactured by extrusion and other processes. Although both are aluminum alloys, their composition, process and performance are significantly different.

Core requirements for food accessories

Safety: It must be non-toxic, not chemically react with food, and avoid heavy metal precipitation.

Corrosion resistance: Resist corrosion by acids, alkalis, salts, etc., to prevent rust or food contamination.

Easy to clean: The surface is smooth and non-porous to reduce bacterial growth.

Durability: Withstand frequent use and mechanical shock.
Ordinary aluminum alloys are easier to meet the above requirements through anodizing and other treatments, while die-cast aluminum is difficult to achieve due to process defects.

Limitations of die-cast aluminum alloys

Although die-cast aluminum has high production efficiency and low cost (suitable for large quantities), it has the following problems:

Porosity defects: High-pressure filling leads to many internal pores, which are prone to residual impurities, and long-term contact with food may cause safety hazards.

Difficult surface treatment: Porosity and sand holes make the anodizing effect poor, and it is impossible to form a uniform anti-corrosion layer, which reduces corrosion resistance.

Insufficient durability: Die-casting parts are more brittle, easy to crack due to bumps or thermal shock, and have a short service life.
Of course, die-cast metal parts and applications are used in all walks of life, and the use requirements of all walks of life also have corresponding metal grade standards. Don’t worry about this. If you have a large-scale production demand for aluminum die-casting parts, you can choose Mulan Metal to cooperate.
